Both a celebration and a call to action, Design and Disability showcases the radical contributions of Disabled, Deaf, and neurodivergent people and communities to design history and contemporary culture, from the 1940s to now.
From tactile signatures and surfaces, sensory reach, surface contrast, colour theory, multiple modes of rest across the gallery, vibrating seats and angled display surfaces we saw the space as a testbed and catalyst for new ideas around the integration of access provision within exhibtion spaces.
Working closely with the DisOrdinary Architecture Project over a series of workshops with their incredible network of lived experience experts we aimed to create a space that was warm, welcoming, joyful, comfortable and life affirming that considered access from the very outset.
